Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 1/2 cups applesauce, unsweetened
2 1/2 cups cake flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 2 tbsp water
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1 cup raisins

Preparation
1. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and continue to beat until fluffy. add the eggs and combine thoroughly.
2. Mix flour with salt and spices.
3. Add 1/3 of the applesauce to the creamed mixture and blend.
4. Add dry ingredients alternately with remaining applesauce, beating thoroughly after each addition.  5. Dissolve baking soda in water and add to mixture.
6. Add raisins.
7. Pour into a large loaf pan 5x9x4 inches.
8. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 1 hour.
